The DuMOL Dirt The building block of great winegrowing.

Fog The Lifeblood of the Vine

Without fog, we'd make great wines, but they wouldn’t be DuMOL.

Imagine a world without fog. Now, imagine a world without pinot noir. Because, without fog, there would be no pinot—at least the way we make it.

Why? The latitude of Sonoma corresponds roughly to the climates of Portugal, Spain, and Italy. Therefore, without fog, Sonoma would grow warm-climate, Mediterranean-style wines—which are delicious, but not what we’re after.

Fog runs the show in our area and we’re glad it does. Its ever-present influence gives the Russian River Valley a mild Northern European climate that loves pinot as much as we do.
